For more than 125 years, Society of Saint Vincent de Paul has helped the needy in Windsor and Essex County. Today, with the help of public donations, SSVP works “green” magic in our resale stores and Society Shoppes for the benefit of our community. Donations of gently used clothing, household goods, furniture and electric appliances are sorted and prepared for resale by employees and volunteers. Clothing items that are unsuitable for resale are bundled and sold to distributers and recyclers. Every year we keep more than 1 million lbs of textiles out of our landfills. Cords are stripped for their metal which in turn is recycled. Bicycles are sent to volunteers for refurbishing and are either sold to the public at affordable prices or given to those in need. The ultimate goal for SSVP is to find a prudent use for all donated goods, therefore eliminating waste.
Money generated through the sale of donated goods in the four area Society Shoppe locations is used to support its many charitable projects. Society Shoppe is the only resale charity to provide those in need with a store voucher, so they can shop at no cost. “We truly are a one-stop charity for those in need” says Rosanne Winger, General Manager. “When people call asking for help, we are able to provide not only food, but assistance with clothing and household goods thanks to your generous donors.”
Windsor Lions Club established in 1920 continues to advocate and support the official Lions Clubs International Eyeglass Recycling Centre providing recycled eyewear free of charge to people in developing countries.
The Canadian Lions Eyeglass Recycling Centre (CLERC) is located in northeast Calgary in a small, unassuming warehouse. 2023 marks the 25th anniversary of the Calgary operations. Stacks of boxes are piled high, each filled with donated eyeglasses from across Canada. Volunteers touch every single pair that arrives to make sure they're good enough to donate to someone in need, just about anywhere in the world. To date, over 6.3 million pairs of glasses have been used by people in 103 countries. In an optometrist's office, machines would typically evaluate around 150 pairs a month, yet at the (CLERC) location an average of 225-250 are inspected each day.
Windsor Lions Club have a long history of serving the blind and visually impaired, and remain committed to continuing this mission into our next century of service. The Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service club organization with more than 1.4 million members in approximately 46,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas around the world.
Join us at YQG Green EXPO and donate any used or new single vision, bifocal glasses, or sunglasses. Windsor Lions Club members will be on hand to accept all donations.

The May Court Club of Windsor is a registered charitable organization dedicated to addressing the needs of children in the Windsor-Essex County community.
Evolving from the Junior Hospital League (1925) and established as a women’s service club in 1934, the Club began by setting up a Thrift Shop, a Day Nursery, a Prenatal Clinic, and a food program for undernourished children in Windsor and Essex County.
The May Court Club of Windsor is now an inclusive organization, with membership open to everyone—the first club in the Association of May Court Clubs of Canada to do so.
They generate revenue by hosting unique fundraising events and offering gently used (and sometimes new) clothing, shoes, and housewares at the May Court Club Shoppe, which is run exclusively by volunteers.

Soles for Souls Canada is supported by BioPed Footcare & Orthotics Windsor and will accept any and all footwear donations – pairs of shoes, single shoes, boots, sport shoes of all shapes and sizes. We are able to upcycle nearly 99% of shoes we receive. In instances where the product is beyond use or repair, S4S works with third-party partners to turn this waste into energy and explore other sustainable options to close the loop to protect our planet.
At S4S Canada, we turn unwanted shoes and clothing into opportunity, by keeping them from going to waste and putting them to good use – providing relief, creating jobs and empowering people to break the cycle of poverty. Soles4Souls is 4 THE PLANET – by repurposing unwanted items and putting them to good use, we find them a new home and extend their lifespan. Since 2006, together with our supporters, we have diverted 81 million pounds of shoes and clothing from landfills in 34 countries and all 50 US States, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico & US Virgin Islands.
We’ve seen firsthand how societal wellbeing is inextricably connected with protecting our planet by leaving less of an impact on the environment. Which is why we believe it is imperative to address social, economic, and environmental factors in every area of our work and integrate them into our processes, programs, and partnerships.
The Health Products Stewardship Association (HPSA) operates free take-back programs for the safe disposal of unwanted medications in the province of Ontario. Through this program, medications can be returned to pharmacies at no cost.
